The objective of the pioneering research reported in this presentation has been met. Proof has been established that nanoparticles of several compositions can be prepared which show promise as selective sequestering agents for lowering the in vivo concentration of overdosed lipophilic therapeutic drugs which cause several thousand deaths each year. The mechanism of 6-6 complexation between a receptor attached to a particle and the free toxin has been verified by HPLC and NMR. Once optimized, the substrates that prove most effective for saving lives from overdose of the target lipophilic therapeutics and addictive drugs will be evaluated for ability to detoxify chemical warfare and terrorist agents.
