Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been proposed as solutions to the surveillance andrnreconnaissance needs of urban warfare. UAVs have the ability to move rapidly, they canrnprovide a 3D perspective and can be fitted with a wide range of sensors. An extensivernnumber of UAVs are available with different capabilities and limitations. This paperrnaddresses the requirements of urban operations, different UAV categories and how eachrncould support MOUT. A comparison is drawn with ground based sensors and future work tornintegrate UAV and ground based sensors is discussed. Although UAVs can currently be usedrnto support MOUT developments are still needed in C4I, collision avoidance andrnminiaturisation of sensors before they can be fully integrated into urban operations.
