Use of Automated Robots in Orthopedic Surgery: Issues of Trust

摘要

This article reports on a preliminary study conducted to gain knowledge on the use of automation during orthopedic surgery and its relevance to trust. The current study is based on the interest of implementing surgical robots to perform knee surgeries. The main focus in this study was to identify the concerns of physicians and patients in regards to the implementation of such automations during surgery. Information was collected through interviews held both in the United States and in Sweden. Results indicate there is still much skepticism and limited knowledge in the use of robots in orthopedic surgery.
