Coordinating Lead-Time Quotation and Inventory Planning inHybrid Make-to-Order/Make-to-Stock Environments

Quoting short and reliable lead-times is becoming increasingly important in optimizing the value-chain. Traditionalrnresearch in lead-time quotation considers the problem in a cost minimization perspective and does not consider orderrnacceptance as part of the decision. In this research, the coordination of reliable lead-time quotation, scheduling, andrnorder acceptance is studied from a profit maximization perspective. A decision model is proposed and arncomputational analysis is conducted to determine the benefits of lead-time flexibility and flexibility to partiallyrnfulfill orders, under various demand conditions and inventory holding options. Results show that the demandrnconditions and different flexibility have an impact on the manufacturer’s profitability in several ways.
