The stability of a-and γ-LiAlO_2 in molten carbonate (Li_2CO_3/K_2CO_3=62/38mol%) was investigated by immersion test in various atmosphere on the base of 20%O_2~- N_2 and 50%H_2~- N_2. The surface area of γ-LiAlO_2, 5 m~2/g, changed to that of 0.5 m~2/g after 100-hour- immersion test at atmosphere of 0.1%CO_2 50%H_2~- N_2. Simultaneously, the weigh of mixture extremely decreased due to the decomposition of carbonate. There were not large weight change of mixtures under the range of 1% to 10~(-60%) CO_2 on the base of 20%O_2~- N_2 compared with that under 50%H_2~- N_2. It is suggested that H_2-atomsphere influenced the stability of carbonate and/or γ-LiAlO_2. We explained this behavior on the base of thermo chemical consideration.
