Difficulties and Solutions Upon Application of Thermal Methods in Romania

The important share of heavy and viscous oilrnreservoirs in the volume of petroleum resources inrnRomania and the reduced ultimate recovery obtained byrnapplication of conventional recovery methods dictatedrnthe numerous site experiments and commercial processesrnfor application of thermal methods: in situ combustion,rnsteam injection and hot water injection. That is why thernRomanian specialists acquired experience in thernapplication of thermal methods. The introductoryrnchapter presents the main Romanian achievements in thernfield of design, performance and conducting of thermalrnproceses. Combustion, steam injection and hot waterrninjection processes (Suplacu de Barcau, Balaria, Videle)rnand steam injection processes at Suplacu de Barcau andrnOtesti being emphasized. The next chapter presents therndifficulties encountered in connection with each processrnwith the necessary explanations. Then a classification ofrnsuch difficulties is made depending on the stage and thernplace of occurrence and the main causes of therndifficulties encountered at site are outlined. The finalrnpart analyzes the technical solutions applied inrnRomanian sites and some new solutions for preventionrnand control of coke and sand deposits in the wellsrninfluenced by combustion and steam injection.
