The Future of Chemical Accident Prevention: Role of the Chemical Safety Board

The federal Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) has independent, federal responsibility to investigate chemical releases, research safety issues, and recommend improvements in the safety management of chemicals. Data and analyses from recent investigations are presented. Safety issues covered include process safety management, internal hazard communication, reactive chemicals programs, start-up procedures and management of change. Recommendations concerning these issues are reviewed. The CSB strategic plan and current priorities will be discussed.
