In order to study the scouring and silting rules of the river bed silt in the lower Yellow River before and after the operation of Xiaolangdi Reservoir, we undertook measurement of river bed silt in the lower Yellow River.The 1025 groups of samples at 37 measuring cross-sections were taken form the main stem reach from Tiexie to Qingqi. Particle-sizes were analyzed with the laser particle-size analyzer of Mastersizer 2000, by which the test time was reduced and the accuracy of test was improved. The test results indicated that the application scope of the instrument is 0.1~2000 μm. The stability of the instrument is good and the adoptability to the surrounding environment is proper. The scanning is very fast with speed of 1000 per second and measuring time 12 second, which effectively optimized the veracity, repeatability and stability of the data, and therefore we could acquire reliable test data.
