FIELD EMISSION DISPLAY DEVELOPMENT AT MOTOROLA

The development of microtip based field emission displays (FEDs) at Motorola over the past several years has culminated in the successful fabrication of 15", full color, high-voltage displays, with a full VGA resolution. In this paper we discuss the many technical challenges which have been solved as part of this effort, as well as the difficulties yet to be overcome. We also discuss why Motorola has focused its FED development efforts toward the next generation carbon based cold cathodes.
