Magnesium in the process of electrolytic receiving is polluted with nonmetal impurities (chlorides, oxides, fluorides etc.), for the purification of which it is refined by the method of sedimentation. Taking into consideration that the densities difference of the components is not great (distinguished in 1.1 - 2.5 times) the given process is characterized by long-duration, the high power consumption (80 - 150 Kwh/5) and insufficient separation degree. It is possible to intensify the process of magnesium refining if the components would be separated according to their electric conductivity, which of molten magnesium is by four orders of magnitude greater than that of the salt impurities. In the given work separative effects which can be reached at the draining molten magnesium jets in magnetic field of short solenoid will be studed.
