First Experiences and Results of the BSN-Process to Recover Zinc and Lead from EAF Dust

Badische Stahlwerke GmbH was founded in 1968 by Willy Korf as the first mini-mill in Germany based on scrap melting in the electric arc furnace. The company specializes in reinforcing steel and operates two electric arc furnaces and two rolling mills. In 1998 the total output of products was about 450.000 t of rebars, 500.000 t of rebar in coil and 550.000 t of plain wire rod. With a workforce of only 720 people and a productivity of more than 2.100 t per man and year the company is one of the most productive mini-mills in the world.
