Only a combination of several tests can ensure a good quality of the engine and the cold test satisfies this request very well. In particular, the following considerations can be applied: 1. Good or bad mechanical conditions, valve timing and valve functionality, compression balancing and lubrication system are well tested by the 'cold' technique. 2. Leakages in the oil, water and fuel circuits are well detectable using the pressurization technique. 3. The electrical test ensures the correct cabling and provides the check of the sensors and actuators, in order to be sure that the car will start. 4. As the engine is not fired, the combustion noise is missing and there are no gases; the test cell can run without any heavy sound proofing, ventilation, water circulation etc. 5. The test time is reduced to a few minutes, providing in this way a return in terms of cost and maintenance reduction for the manufacturing companies. Thanks to the above mentioned features, the cold test becomes a integral part of the industrial overview, which aims more and more at cost reduction, at an improvement of the environmental impact and at a high quality of the final product.
