43.2: Increasing Display Density Using Overlapping Real Differences in Depth

Two different displays can be presented in the same visual space by placing their images at two different real depth planes. If the depth planes' distance difference exceeds Panum's fusion area, each display can be focused on separately. This can nearly double the information presented within a given display surface. Additionally, information between the displays may be kept in spatial register to permit easy correlation between the two displays. A prototype of what we call the True Depth Display is described and preliminary findings about its effectiveness are presented.
