The Economics of Proprietary vs. Open Network Management Solutions

This paper discusses the need for a new approach to Integrated Access Server (IAS) management and control. Shifting the service delivery function away from proprietary systems makes the Service Provider's network less costly, easier to maintain and administer, and improves overall end user satisfaction. The paper demonstrates this via economic study results, which indicate significant installed first cost savings, and average daily expense savings of more than 30%. This paper also presents an automated software management architecture and process, and general software management architectural requirements for IAS-based equipment.
