The economics of proprietry vs. open network management solutions

This paper discusses the need for a new approach to integratednaccess server (IAS) management and control. Shifting the servicendelivery function away from proprietary systems makes the servicenprovider's network less costly, easier to maintain and administer, andnimproves overall end user satisfaction. The paper demonstrates this vianeconomic study results, which indicate significant installed first costnsavings, and average daily expense savings of more than 30%. It alsonpresents an automated software management architecture and process, andngeneral software management architectural requirements for IAS-basednequipment
