A Review and Comparison of Different Methods for Determining Goodness of Solutions in Group Technology

Many useful algorithms and heuristics have been developed in group technology for the determination of goodness of solutions. These methods are justified with respect to one criteria while loosing its claim of superiority over other criteria. This paper looks into a number of these methodologies critically, pointing out pros and cons of each them. The comparisons of these methods are carried out on a example of 24 machines and 40 components problem. Although most of the leading methodologies are discussed here, there is, however, no claim in that this review is exhaustive. At the end of this paper direction for further research work is also given.
