Comparison of Methods of Editing Missing Area in 3D Body Scan Data of Women's Pate and Crotch

The accurate information of 3D body scan data is very important to develop clothing as well as ergonomic goods. Anthropometric data could improve the quality of product design and usability. In the fashion industry, this information is used to tailor the size and shape of clothing to stature and body form of the actual human figure. But it is inevitable that 3D body scan data should have missing part due to the technical fault of 3D body scanner. Until now, the missing areas were reconstructed through a reverse engineering program. However the accuracy of the process was not verified. Therefore the missing area of the 3D body scan data has become the factor that obstructs the utilization of the 3D body scan data. Hence the purpose of this research was to propose the most suitable reconstruction method on the missing parts at the pate and crotch of the 3D body scan data. For the experiment, as the reconstruction function of the Rapidform 2006 program, the 3 types of reconstruction methods amongst the fill-hole functions were adopted and compared. First was 'smooth,' the second was 'curvature,' and the third was 'bridge(flat).' After fill-hole the missing area with each of the methods, the body surface and the size variations gained through the Auto BM(3D automatic measurement program), were compared. For the purpose of this research in studying the influences based on the fill-hole for each body part and to propose an adequate reconstruction method, with the exception of the missing area to be studied, the remaining missing areas were controlled of their influences with the same method of fill-hole.
