In the southern part of Stockholm a complicated foundation project is in progress. The contractorrnSKANSKA was first on the site and has started the first part of the extension. The first contract, SLrn10, has turned out to be very complicated and challenging from geotechnical point of view. Therncontract comprises a 460 m long underground structure including 40 meters of rock tunnel, a cutrnand cover concrete tunnel and tunnel ramps. Parts of the tunnel are founded on precast concreternpiles and other parts on bedrock. The ramps are founded on steel-core piles anchored into thernbedrock.rnImportant parts of the project are the temporary structures including steel sheet piling, sealing andrninfiltration systems and temporary working roads.rnAn extensive control program is used under the construction phase for monitoring of settlementsrnand ground water table within the working area. The groundwater situation is not to be affected byrnthe construction works and the settlements in the neighborhood must be small. The constructionrnworks are going on close to buildings and heavy traffic, which has a strong influence of the designrnand the construction methods.rnToday, most of the temporary works are performed and the extensive works with the permanentrnconcrete tunnels are in progress.
