This paper introduces the functions and characteristics ofrnthe newly built multifunction artificial climate chamber of ChongqingrnUniversity. Based on the test results performed on several types of icedrninsulators with a withstand voltage method in the chamber, it indicatesrnthat the withstand duration for an iced insulator should be at least 15rnminutes, and that at normal conditions, all the tested insulator stringsrniced with a freezing water conductivity of 300μS/cm can withstand thernservice voltage. It analyzes the effect of the atmospheric pressure onrnwithstand and flashover voltages. Because the discharge path has a highrnrandomness, the effect of atmospheric pressure on flashover voltages ofrniced insulators has a high disparity.
