Sterilisation of Biologically Loaded Fluids With Electrochemically Generated Silver Ions

An electrochemical low energy consumption microreactor that can be used for the sterilisation of organic waste loaded with pathogenic material was assessed in terms of production and destructive efficiency. The reactor is based on electrochemical generation of particulate silver and silver ions at a constant current density and may be used as a standalone unit or as part of an integrated system for secondary and/or tertiary treatment of waste. The electrogenerated silver ion solution and paniculate suspension has been tasted on a mixture of pathogenic bacteria and fungi.
