SCC in oxidizing environments such as in BWRs is very effectively mitigated by electrocatalysis of wetted surfaces provided there is a stoichiometric excess of reductants over oxidants. The mechanisms and criteria for effective SCC mitigation are summarized, with particular focus on the critical location for the catalyst in a crack and recent experimental support for these concepts. Resolution of the vulnerabilities of electrocatalysis, including the development of On-Line NobleChem~TM, is addressed by and experiment.
