Safety Audit Pooling of Ground Handling at Line Stations

The International Air Carrier Association has embarked on a project to investigate the feasibility of pooling safety audits of Ground Handling Organizations. The incentive for that project resulted from new harmonised safety regulations in Europe (JAR-OPS) which recognize Ground Handling as an important element of the operator's safety system. As part of the project, the area of Ground Handling was defined, safety risks were categorized, audit check lists were developed and tested. Work is still proceeding on the development of harmonised auditing methods and means to share the audit results. A need for harmonised and well-defined safety standards for Ground Handling is recognized.
