Safety and Safeguards by Design: Design of a Fuel Handling Device for Open-Pool Research Reactors

摘要

The team designed, developed, and constructed a new fuel handling tool for open pool reactors with plate fuel elements. This device could be easily adapted for use in other open pool reactors requiring manual fuel handling and inspection. This new tool incorporates major design improvements including weight, better ergonomics, robustness, and ease of use. This device is currently in operation by operators at the RINSC. Operators will record their experiences with the fuel handling device and the information will be useful for future improvements.
