Rock-sheds of reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete have been constructed in Japan. However, they have the insufficient capacity of deformation. A concrete-filled tubular steel beam, i.e. a CFT beam has the high strength and the enough capacity of deformation. In this paper, firstly the test results on the two-spans continuous CFT beams reinforced with the high strength steel rods without a bond are presented. Secondly, the impact test results on the prototype of a rock-shed are presented. The rock-shed has been constructed with the CFT beams. It has the real dimensions of 10 m span length and a 5 m height and is covered with a composite roof slab. The free falling test has been carried out on the ultimate condition of the weight of 20 ton and the height of 37m on the rock-shed. The test results show that a CFT structure has great deformation and energy absorption capacity.
