A modified anaerobic glucose metabolic model of mixed culture fermentation (MCF)from Rodriguez is proposed based on the assumption of maximum energy yield in viewpointbiochemistry and biophysiology. The acetate, butyrate, ethanol, propionate, lactate and H2aredeemed to be the main metabolites. The production of H2relevant to NADH/NAD+andFdred/Fdox is proposed in the view of electron bifurcation reaction. The proton motive force isconsidered to be constant, while the diffusivity coefficient is reappraised in our model. Themetabolic distribution of the MCF model is much more approach to the experiment data than thatof Rodriguez, that is the production of acetate and butyrate at acidic pH (<6), acetate andpropionate at neutral and alkali pH, respectively, the H2yield are also comparable. These clearlydemonstrate that the modified model is reasonable.
