Like many other organizations, libraries have also been transformed by disruptive forces. On the one hand,these forces, to some extent,have threatened the very existence of libraries(or many of the libraries'traditional functions such as, reference service, cataloging,etc.). On the other hand, many of these very same forces have also brought unsurpassed benefits and opportunities for people around the globe(e.g.,people from remote parts of the world can access resources that would have been impossible a short time ago.)Given these paradoxical conditions, it is difficult to say in which directions) these forces will lead us a few decades down the road. However, what is certain is that, throughout human history,the people who possessed adaptive and innovative skills have had the upper hands. Leaders of this volatile,unpredictable, uncertain complex environment cannot afford not to be adaptive and innovative.
