The present invention is an automotive catalyst comprising platinum group metals, metal oxide nanoparticles, and carriers selected from palladium, platinum, rhodium, and any combination thereof, the platinum group metals and metal oxide nanos. Provided is an automotive catalyst in which particles are uniformly dispersed on a carrier such as an alumina component. The metal oxide nanoparticles have a D90 diameter in the range of 1.0 nm to 50 nm. The present invention also provides a layered catalyst article comprising a catalyst comprising at least one platinum group metal, metal oxide nanoparticles, and a carrier. The present invention also provides a process for preparing a catalyst and a catalytic article and a method for treating the gaseous exhaust stream, including contacting the gaseous exhaust stream with the catalyst or the catalytic article.
