An optimized 2D chaotic mapping (O2DCM) system for image encryption using an improved SeaLion optimization algorithm, where the system includes:an initialization processing unit for accepting a 2D logistic card for initializing the encryption of an input image, taking into account the characteristics of diffusion and confusion for encryption;a sequence processing unit for generating the pseudorandom sequences using a complicated chaotic mapping, wherein a chaotic mapping depends on the preliminary system constraints and the order of permutation, and wherein an encryption key, referred to as a key, is provided to a 2D logistic sequence generator;a tuning processing unit to perform a fine-tuning of the initial chaotic system parameters (X0,Y0) whereby a new optimized algorithm called the average fitness based Sealion optimization algorithm is implemented to determine the most favorable chaotic system parameters, and where entropy is maximized by fine-tuning the initial parameters; anda decryption processing unit for decrypting the encrypted image using the encryption key, wherein the decryption process is a reverse encryption process.
