To reduce the cost of the life cycle of a mechanical device and increase the operation rate by monitoring the state of the mechanical device and detecting a sign of a failure in an early stage.SOLUTION: The system for monitoring the state of a mechanical device includes: an image data acquisition unit for acquiring image data on the inside of the container storing mechanical parts; an image analysis unit for outputting foreign substance data on the foreign substance in the oil of the container according to the image data; a storage unit for storing the characteristics data showing the characteristics of the foreign substance; and an estimation unit for estimating the state of the mechanical device having mechanical parts on the basis of the foreign substance data and the characteristics data and outputting the estimation data.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
