The invention relates to a blood treatment device configured to lower the amount of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and/or monomethyl arginine (MMA) in the blood or blood plasma of a person in need thereof in an extracorporeal blood circuit, wherein the device comprises a matrix, and wherein said matrix comprises an enzyme configured to metabolize ADMA and/or MMA. The invention further relates to an extracorporeal blood circuit comprising a blood treatment device of the invention and to the blood treatment device for use as a medicament in the treatment and/or prevention of a medical condition associated with elevated asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and/or monomethyl arginine (MMA) levels and/or a medical condition associated with impaired nitric oxide (NO) production and/or bioavailability.
