A method for separating tritium from water contaminated with it includes adding anhydrous strontium peroxide (hereinafter – SPO) to contaminated water with the possibility of uniform distribution of SPO over the water volume until a precipitate of strontium peroxide octahydrate is formed, and this precipitate is separated. The precipitate is a tritium concentrate in the form of strontium peroxide octahydrate.
