The invention relates to a test instrument capable of quickly detecting the presence of the SARS-COV2 coronavirus in a sample of a nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swab of a patient with high sensitivity. The device comprises a sample holder with a glass slide, a near infra-red (NIR) mini-spectrometer having an excitation light source, an electronic card for acquiring data, an electronic card for storing and transferring data, a USB power interface, and a mobile application for processing spectral data and displaying the results. The kit can be connected to a cloud database for a permanent improvement in the sensitivity of the test instrument.
