PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ventilation device for ventilating a patient by high flow oxygen therapy via a hose system. A ventilator comprises at least one sensor element 110, at least one driveable intake or exhalation valve 120, and a control unit 130. Sensor elements are arranged and configured to identify and output measurements 112 in the hose system, which indicate the gas flow in the hose system. The driveable intake or exhalation valve is arranged and configured to allow the flow of breathing gas from the ventilation circuit 107 of the ventilator. The control unit brings the ventilation pressure provided by the ventilator to a pre-defined maximum pressure in a pre-defined region 140 of the hose system via at least one sensor element and at least one intake or exhalation valve.
