The present invention provides a cellular composition containing CD34 + cells derived from the bone marrow of a deceased donor and CD3 + cells derived from something other than the bone marrow of a deceased donor. The composition is beneficial in promoting the mixed chimera phenomenon in recipients of solid organ transplantation. The present invention also provides methods for making and using such compositions. In certain embodiments, the invention analyzes and prepares blood and blood components from a deceased donor for use in the compositions of the invention to promote mixed chimera phenomena in solid organ transplant recipients.
