The invention relates to an indwelling cannula comprising a hollow needle (5) and an insert, wherein the insert can be displaced longitudinally within the hollow needle (5). A blocking device is provided for blocking the longitudinal displacement of the insert within the hollow needle (5) in the distal direction (22). The invention further relates to an indwelling cannula (1) comprising a flexible catheter (17) with a housing (4), which adjoins the distal end of the catheter, and a hollow needle (5), wherein the hollow needle can be moved longitudinally within the flexible catheter. In particular, the invention relates to an indwelling cannula with backslide protection. The longitudinal displacement of the hollow needle within the flexible catheter in the proximal direction is blocked by a blocking device (2). In this manner, damage to the catheter by means of the needle tip is prevented during an intentional or unintentional movement of the hollow needle forward again within the catheter. The blocking device has a cage that is used as a tip protection for the hollow needle which is drawn out of the catheter.
