An image encoding/decoding method and apparatus are provided. An image decoding method performed by an image decoding apparatus according to the present disclosure includes: identifying a prediction mode of a current block; when the prediction mode of the current block is the intra prediction mode, determining a candidate intra prediction mode for the current block based on the prediction modes of neighboring blocks located in the vicinity of the current block; generating a candidate intra prediction mode list of the current block based on the candidate intra prediction mode; and determining an intra prediction mode of the current block based on the candidate intra prediction mode list. In this case, when the prediction mode of the neighboring block is a matrix based intra prediction (MIP) mode, the candidate intra prediction mode may be determined as a predetermined intra prediction mode.
