The present invention includes systems, methods, and techniques for controlling the power delivered to one or more strings of light emitting diodes (LEDs). For example, the circuit includes a power converter configured to generate a current, a switching device, and a sensor. The sensor compares the magnitude of the current to a threshold. In response to the magnitude exceeding the threshold, the switching device sinks a portion of the current by turning on the switching device to prevent the magnitude of the current from exceeding the threshold. When the switching device is turned on, the current is divided into an undesired current flowing into the switching device and a desired current flowing into the LED string.
