To provide ballistic resistant fibrous composites having improved ballistic resistance properties.SOLUTION: There is provided a fibrous composite comprising a plurality of adjoined fiber layers, each fiber layer comprising fibers having surfaces that are at least partially covered with a polymeric binder material. The fibers are partially free of a fiber surface finishing agent such that residual fiber surface finishing agent covers fiber surface area of 1.0% to 50%. The polymeric binder material directly comes into contact with the fiber surface that is not covered with the fiber surface finishing agent, On the fiber surface, a region that is not covered with the residual fiber surface finishing agent is chemically functionalized. The fibrous composite has an interlaminar lap shear strength between adjoined fiber layers of at least about 170 pounds force (lbf) at about room temperature.SELECTED DRAWING: None
