Disclosed is a method for automatic protection of an object, a person or a piece of visual information from a risk of undesired observation by a third party, an unauthorised person and/or an image recording device, this method comprising the steps consisting of: - automatically detecting, by analysing images originating from at least one lidar or a camera (20) disposed so as to cover a predefined surveillance area (S), the presence of a third party or an unauthorised person and/or said device in this area or close by, the predefined surveillance area corresponding at least to an area from which the person or said device is able to see the object, the person or the piece of information, - in the event of a positive detection, triggering a predefined action.
