A mode dependent loss measurement apparatus according to one embodiment of the present disclosure measures mode dependent losses of a measurement optical fiber comprising a coupling type MCF.The apparatus comprises a light source, a light receiver, a mode coupling state changing means, and an analysis part.The light source inputs light to an input end of an excitation optical fiber comprising another coupling type MCF.The light receiver detects the sum of the power of output light from a plurality of core end faces located on the output end of the optical fiber to be measured.The mode coupling state changing means changes the mode coupling state of the excitation optical fiber.The analysis part determines the mode dependent loss of the optical fiber to be measured from the fluctuation of the optical power detected by the photodetector.
