The invention concerns a process by which plant-wide safety considerations can be carried out, which is not limited to automation components of a single manufacturer, but operates across manufacturers.;The process has a high degree of user-friendliness through appropriate user management and automated support in process-compliant implementation of assessments, incident handling and definition of security measures as well as their follow-up.;A rule generator uses security criteria to work out user-specific analysis rules from a complex set of rules with many input sizes.;All plant-relevant data are automatically collected in an inventory.;The machine security auditor applies the user-specific rulebook to the collected plant data from the asset inventory and creates audit trails from it.
