Systems and Methods for Cold Spray Addition Manufacturing with Superplastic Diffusion Bonding

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide structural reinforcement to a workpiece by performing cold spray addition manufacturing (CSAM) together with superplastic forming diffusion bonding (SPFDB). SOLUTION: A mounting form for manufacturing a finished work piece having a molded portion is provided, and one form includes an SPFDB component, a CSAM component, and a mold having a concave surface. Various configurations allow the SPFDB and CSAM components to function on the work piece in a different order. One form is to cold spray the additive onto the work piece (using the CSAM component) and perform superplastic molding on the work piece (using the SPFDB component) using a mold, thereby producing the work piece. Make a finished product with molded parts. The molded portion matches the shape defined by the concave surface. Cold spray results in an increased thickness of the finished product in the target area, which provides structural reinforcement and has tapered edges.
