Disclosed are a method and apparatus for setting a checkpoint interval on the basis of the performance of a cloud platform. The method comprises: according to performance data of a cloud platform and processing data of a task to be executed, performing calculation to obtain an execution time for said task; according to a preset probability distribution and the execution time for said task, performing calculation to obtain a plurality of time interval samples for the occurrence of an error on the cloud platform; according to the plurality of time interval samples, the execution time for said task, overheads of checkpoints, a plurality of preset checkpoint intervals, and overheads of restarting when an error occurs, performing calculation to obtain a plurality of predicted time samples corresponding to each preset checkpoint interval; and according to the plurality of predicted time samples corresponding to each preset checkpoint interval, determining a checkpoint interval when a predicted time is the minimum. By means of implementing the present application, a checkpoint interval is determined on the basis of a law of occurrence of an error and performance dynamics of a cloud platform, such that the problem of an unreasonable checkpoint setting caused due to the failure to consider the performance fluctuation of a cloud platform is avoided.
