A method and device for residing in a network, and a method and device for assisting to reside in a network are provided. The method for residing in a network comprises: determining a signal strength and a frequency bandwidth of each of at least two adjacent cells at a location of the mobile terminal; determining one of the at least two adjacent cells as a target resident cell based on the determined signal strength and frequency bandwidth; and making the mobile terminal reside in the target resident cell. According to the methods and devices, the mobile terminal can reside in a network with a broadband cell as much as possible, thereby improving the user experience of using next generation or more newer generation network.
