An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a camera, a touch screen display, a memory, a processor operably connected to the camera, the touch screen display, and the memory. The memory stores instructions, which while executed by the processor, enable the processor to display a preview image containing an emoji for a user on the touch screen display based on the motion of the subject recognized by the camera, such that the motion of the subject is applied to the emoji, to receive a first user input to perform a function associated with the emoji while the preview image is being displayed, to display a user interface including the emoji on the touch screen display in response to the first user input, to receive a second user input associated with a motion of the emoji included in the user interface, and to apply a motion specified according to the second user input to the emoji in response to the second user input and then display the emoji on the touch screen display.
