A computer implemented method 100 for monitoring the academic progress of a user comprises the steps of allowing the user to create a user profile containing verifiable data 101, recording the verifiable data to a central resource 102, cross checking an item of verifiable data with a reference source 103, recording data associated with the result of the cross check to the central resource 104, and associating the user profile with an educator 105. An educational pathway associated with the educator may be retrieved and assigned to the user. The educational pathway may include a task for completion by the user and the method may prompt the user to complete the task and/or issue an alert if the task is not completed within a time period. Incomplete tasks within the educational pathway may be identified and their status communicated with a third party.
