The present invention relates to a composition for inhibiting excessive sebum secretion comprising an extract of chestnut gunpowder as an active ingredient. More specifically, it relates to a cosmetic composition, a pharmaceutical composition, and a food composition comprising an extract of chestnut gunner as an active ingredient, which can effectively control excessive sebum secretion by inhibiting the differentiation of sebum cells. The composition according to the present invention exhibits an effect of effectively inhibiting sebum secretion by inhibiting sebum cell proliferation and lipid synthesis by inhibiting the differentiation of sebum cells while having excellent human safety due to no skin irritation and cytotoxicity. It can be usefully used as an active ingredient in a cosmetic composition for suppressing secretion, a pharmaceutical composition for preventing, treating or improving sebum-related diseases, and a food composition.
