Various embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a method and apparatus for generating an emotional response based on deep learning. The method of generating an emotional response in an electronic device includes an operation of extracting an emotion vector representing the emotion of an input sentence using a deep learning-based emotion extraction model, and an operation of extracting an emotion vector representing an emotion of an input sentence using a deep learning-based thought extraction model of the input sentence. It may include an operation of extracting a thought vector corresponding to a contextual meaning, and an operation of generating a response to the input sentence based on the thought vector and the emotion vector.
