The present invention relates to the yeast strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae number CNCM I-3856 for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of oropharyngeal infections caused by Candida. This strain shows a strong ability to reduce live fungi in the oral cavity and prevent the transmission of infection by Candida to the esophagus, stomach and small intestine.
