This disclosure provides storage and retrieval of a trailer's GPS location for a coupling support process.A system to support the alignment of a vehicle to a trailer includes a vehicle steering system, a detection system that emits a signal that includes scene data of an area behind a vehicle, and a control that controls the vehicle steering system to that effect,manoeuvre the vehicle in accordance with an initial alignment manoeuvre which positions the vehicle relative to the trailer in this way;the trailer is located within the area behind the vehicle.The control also receives the scene data and identifies the trailer within the area behind the vehicle, directs a feedback path to align a coupling ball mounted on the vehicle to a trailer coupler, and controls the vehicle steering system to manoeuvre the vehicle,including the reverse path along the reverse path.
